El Salvador and Honduras: Centros de Alcance “Por Mi Barrio”

Passionist Social Services host leadership and civic participation trainings in collaboration with regional projects such as the Regional Youth Alliance.

Centros de Alcance (in English, “Reaching Centers”) are safe spaces in the community where youth can participate in artes and sports programs as well as educational programs outside of school. Sponsored the Regional Youth Alliance and financed by US AID and SICA the centers rely on community leaders and trained volunteers to implement a broad range of occupational training, recreational , cultural, and educational activities. The impact of these pilot programs –currently located in a handful of barrios in El Salvador and Honduras –will be studied for impact and best practices will be duplicated in future youth initiatives.
