El Salvador: FESPAD

The Foundation for the Study and Application of Law promotes human development through socio-legal policies, which understand Law as a political instrument in service of the vulnerable; as an opportunity for civil society participation in national life; and as central to the promotion and defense of human rights, constitutional rule of law, and the development of jurisprudence.

Prisoners at the maximum security prison in Zacatecoluca, El Salvador are shackled with handcuffs attached to ankle cuffs every time they are moved from the cell block.

FESPAD

FESPAD has actively defended the rights of prisoners in the Salvadoran penal system and has provided support to organizations of families of the incarcerated (including incarcerated gang members) in an effort to advocate for humane treatment and training programs which will prepare the incarcerated to re-enter civil society as productive members.
